Nursing is one of the most
nurturing, bonding experiences a
mother can have with her child. I
created this series of drawings to
celebrate this intimacy.
Mama, 2003
$425 framed (20x24 aret)
It's an amazing sense of
accomplishment to see a newborn
grow and grow...and to know that
your body alone made it possible.
Tandem Nursing, 2003 (Sold)
Although the virtues of nursing have
been extolled, there remain many
discomforts with public nursing...
especially for older babies and
toddlers. It's a very brave mother
who decides to continue nursing past
the first year into the second, third,
or fourth; she must tolerate the
discomfort of those who believe in
nursing only for immunity, to give her
children the comfort they derive from
breastfeeding.
Nursing and Working, 2003
$425 unframed (20x26 art)
The whole woman includes her brain
as well as her body; nursing mothers
are still the women they used to be
before they bore children, and are
learning to integrate the nursing babe
into the daily routines and work life.
Kissing Baby Toes, 2003 (Sold)
There is nothing more precious than kissing
little baby feet. Intimacy between mother
and child--kissing and gently stroking
baby--is an integral part of nursing. I
believe this intimacy is uncomfortable for
some people to witness in public.
Feeding Mama, 2003
$425 framed (20x24 art)
Babies like to feed their mamas
too. This playful interaction is
so common during nursing --
especially with older babies
and toddlers.
Ye Yo (Mother), 2003
$425 framed (20x24 art)
When I was working on this painting,
the love of the little girl for her mother
kept shining through, reminding me of
a song by Erykah Badu called "Ye Yo".
This song touches me because it
reminds me of how important I am to
my sons--I'm their mother, their Ye Yo.
Sometmes I need to take a moment out
of my busy day and remember this.
Baby Having Latte, 2003 (Sold)
Nursing in public invites all kinds of
public scrutiny over what you are
ingesting and thereby providing to
your baby. But no one is better
educated about the effects of
caffeine, wine, beer and so on than a
nursing mama -- except perhaps her
pediatrician.
Everyone's Dining, 2004
$500 framed (20x26 art)
Mom! Pay Attention to Me!, 2003
$375 framed (16x20 art)
Older siblings react to nursing in the
same competitive way they react to
any activity that takes Mom's
attention away from them. But it all
comes down to loving their mamas.
The Embrace, 2004 (NFS)
Kissing Baby, 2003
$375 framed (16x20 art)
Quiet Moments and Smiles, 2003
$375 framed (16x20 art)
Many times babies are quite happy
and content when nursing and
interacting with mom. Sometimes
they smile with mama's nipple in
their mouth -- it is the sweetest smile.
Nursing and Reading, 2003 (Sold)
How to entertain the older child
while the baby nurses. This mother
has found a solution that makes
everyone happy -- reading a book!
Tanner Nursing at 5 Days, 2003 (NFS)
When my second son was only 5 days
old, my "Nursing Mothers"
co-exhibitor Christy Scherrer took
photographs of him nursing for me
to use as reference material. This
drawing stems from one of those
wonderful photographs.
Baby Feet, 2003
$375 framed (16x20 art)
